These are packages that I have used, you can find numerous alternative through any good search engine such as Yahoo.

Make titles and headings

Plain text looks a bit boring as a page heading. If you want to brighten things up with some fancy lettering or some nice effects, then I've found a handy web site. Flaming Text uses the Gimp to generate jpegs and gifs, and the service is free for on-line users.

A free FTP program

FTP stands for "file transfer protocol", and it's the basic format that you use to load pages onto your server. Leech is an efficient and easy to use program with no fancy options to confuse things and slow down the transfer process. It's multi-threaded to make the maximum use of your transfer bandwidth.

One thing that makes a site look unprofessional is the presence of missing links. You only need to make one small spelling mistake to stop an URL from resolving. Xenu is a handy utility to run over your site and make sure that you have made these sort of mistakes.
